Subject: A question about canceling RC

I got a WL request that had some RC--mostly restating the PBS guidelines about writing and highlighting, but also specifying no "excessive" curling of the pages and some other stuff about hardcovers that aren't applicable to this book.  Anyway, at the same time, the member PMed me indicating she wanted the book regardless of the condition, and to ignore her RC.

I'm comfortable that the book meets her RC in any event, so I'm not really worried about it.  But just for my own curiousity--is there any way for a member to turn off the RC once the order has gone through?  Would she have to cancel the order, which would then put the book through to the next person in line?  I was thinking that if the book didn't meet the RC, I'd be really apprehensive about clicking on the button that says it DOES, kwim?

I'm assuming that this WL book is a book that might have been on her list for a long time. Wishlist book requests have a requestor's RC on it and can't be changed unless she pm's you. When we request a book (not on WL) we have the option to check the box to not show the RC. We don't have that option with a WL book. I did just what the requestor did in your case with one book that was on my WL book forever and didn't want to miss out on it.

There is no way other than them cancelling it. I would just send it. You have the PM showing that they asked you to ignore the RCs so there is no danger of you losing a credit if they should try to back out of it after they have the book.

I have also done this on some of my WL books too. Occassionally I get an offer on some of the more rare poker books I have and will PM them to send the book, I don't care what shape it is in. I don't like taking my books off of AR in order to be able to insert/remove the RCs because I have things in my life that could pull me away from the site for long periods of time without warning and I don't want to miss any.

In another thread Mary (Mrs Lefty) has said that if you take your WL off auto request you can then eliminate your RC.

I prefer to have my WL books on auto request.  Never know when you might not get to the site.  Gasp!  I lost power recently so I was glad everything was on auto though I almost lost a book requested from me.  Phew!

Thank you!  I never had RC myself, so I wasn't sure how that worked.
