Sorry this is long. I've recently had several (4 books, 4 seperate transactions) that the system ended up marking lost in the mail because I never got them after a month had gone by from the supposed mail date.

1 of them (from Feb.) never has shown up. I went ahead and took that one off my transaction list as never received since it still hasn't shown up. She pm'd me and said that she had mailed them (a full month after she marked them mailed) but they never showed up then when I pm'd her again about them being marked lost in the mail she was mad at me. It's not like I got them and didn't mark them rec'd.

Then just within the last week I've had this happen 3 more times. One lady found the books in her hubby's truck and I marked them as rec'd when they showed up today. I can understand that one. She went looking for them when I pm'd her to ask about where it was. The 2nd transaction the lady had accidentally buried the book on her desk and missed it when she went to the PO. Again I can accept this. She did let me know after I had inquired about it.

The 4th one is the one I'm having the issue with. I pm'd this person and asked about the books. Never heard back from her. They were marked as lost on the 29th by the system. So I get the books today finally and she mailed them the day they were marked lost in the mail. I pm'd her a couple times. No response at all.

Sooo...here's my quandry. I got the books but she wouldn't respond to me (and now I had already ordered 1 of them from someone else since I couldn't get ahold of her). I just feel like she doesn't deserve the credit for them. If she was worried about it she should have responded to my questions about it.  So do I mark it rec'd and let her have the credit or not?

I'm worried that it's going to look bad on me that I have these books that are marked lost in the mail even though it's not my fault. What do you all think

I think if I received 2 books and the first sender mailed it on the day it was marked lost I wouldn't mark it based on this:

  • *If the book was mailed late and had already been declared Lost at PBS before it was mailed (and you re-requested the book and got it from someone else), this is an exception:
    • If a sender wants to mail a book that has been declared Lost at PBS already she needs to contact you with a Personal Message asking you to confirm that you still want the book from her, and
    • You would need to have confirmed that you still wanted her copy of the book in a Personal Message in reply to hers before she mailed it.
    • If a sender sends a book this late without getting confirmation from you that you have not gotten another copy in the meantime, the sender has made the mistake here; in this case,  you are not obligated to mark the lost book received nor are you obligated to return the extra copy.
  •  It may be splitting hairs on if it was marked lost before or after she dropped it in the mail, but that is beyond rude to send the book that late knowing your order will be moved on to the next person that day and not letting you know they were sending it. I would make them come after the credit.

That's what I was afraid of. It just makes me so mad because I work really hard to make sure I get things mailed out in a timely manner. If I am going to be delayed in mailing I let people know up front and I NEVER mark a book mailed until I KNOW it is mailed. I feel I owe my fellow PBS members that courtesy and respect.

Thanks for letting me know and letting me vent :)
