I've been thinking about ending my membership here, what will happen to my kiosk & my money.  I never ordered any books. I tried to transfer them to swapcd but it would not let me, it says i need to order & recieve three books! I've sent out books, but never ordered. Anyone know? Thanks for any help, advice.

Can I ask why you've never ordered anything?  I think you *have* to order at least the first 2 you were given.

Yeah, you can ask.. I never ordered anything because honestly I don't see anything I want. Most books I can get at my library or at the thrift stores. The book I do want is out of print, and the likely hood it would be listed on here is about 1 in 100.

There have been some very interesting stories about people exactly like you who thought the book they wanted would never be posted and it has.  Where have you looked for new books?  Before you decide to discontinue your membership completely, may I make a suggestion?  Subscribe to the Daily Digest for awhile.  This is sent to your e-mail each morning and contains a list of all the books either posted or wish listed from the previous day.  Of course you don't want to see every book in every genre or you'd have a ton, but when you sign up for the Digest you will get to choose what category of books you are interested in.  I have been using this tool for about 5 months, and it frankly is the only thing I use  now to find new books.  I never knew there were so many different books I'd never read!  You can sign up for this in your Account Settings.

You are correct that you cannot swap money from PBS to SwapCD.  But depending on how much money you have in your account, you can use that money to buy credits, which you can use on either site.  I'll do some checking for you and find out how you can do that.  If you do ultimately decide to end your membership I am pretty sure your money would be refunded, you would have to contact the site founders for that under the "contact us" link at the bottom of any page.

I hope you don't leave us!

Melissa;  To transfer credits from PBS to SwapCD:

This is done from your SwapCD account.  The transfer credits link is currently on the right menu of your Swap CD account. Follow the posted instructions to transfer the credits.

You can convert your PBS money to credits, or anything else in the kiosk.  R&R are working on a way that will soon allow you to use PBS money for anything in the kiosk.  In the meantime, use the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page and ask that your money be converted for whatever it is you want.

Hopefully the above suggestions for finding new books will help you get to ordering and receiving so that you can use your credits on SwapCD.

Hope this has been helpful!

Joy, she cannot transfer credits until she has received 3 books. This rule is in place to prevent people from signing up with their first 9 books, and then transferring their 3 free credits to someone else. Those first 3 are non-transferable, same with the one free credit you get a SwapAcd, you cannot transfer it over here, either.

I would imagine you can contact R&R using the Feedback link as Joy indicated or in the Help Center and get your money in your account refunded or perhaps moved over to SwapAcd, but I have no idea for sure on the latter.

Melissa, I just want to say that if you decide to leave permanently, we would all be sad to see you go.  I understand the idea of being able to get books at the library as well as here, but I have found that I don't even go to my library anymore...I get ALL my books through here.  For the most part I have so many on my TBR pile, that I don't mind waiting for the WL books.

I'm wondering what genre you prefer to read?  Have you tried just searching for titles or ISBN's rather than just browsing?  Sometimes browsing gets to be too much for me.

According to the Terms of Service, PBS Money is non-refundable:

Money Accounts
National Book Swap accepts credit cards, money orders, checks, and PayPal as a means of adding funds to a member’s money account. Account funds may be used to purchase credits, merchandise, transaction fees, or others goods and services offered by National Book Swap. National Book Swap reserves the right to change the price of credits and other goods or services at any time without prior notice and without any compensation to members with existing funds in their money accounts. Funds added to a member’s account are earned by National Book Swap when deposited and are non-refundable.
*******

Also, as others have said, from the Help Center about transferring/buddying credits:

In order to give credits to other members, you must first have received at least 3 books from PBS.  Once you have received three or more books, the option will be available for you.
****

Melissa, I am by no means suggesting you should not send Feedback to the PBS Team, just trying to point out what info is already out there.

I agree with Amanda, I'd hate to see you go.  Perhaps you could start a thread in Club Thoughts or Hidden Gems about your favorite genre and get suggestions for a whole new author.  I have certainly been turned on to many new authors and even new genres since I joined, lol.  I hope you decide to stay.

Depending on how many credits you have, Melissa, maybe you could order three books for other people (a friend, a relative, etc.) or just take a chance on three books, spend those first three credits, and then transfer your remaining credits.

Many of the books I want are also out of print. I don't see any of the books that are out of print on your wishlsit. You can't get a book offer if it's not on your wishlist!
I have already received several out of print books here. It does happen. I've only been a member for a couple months, too, so it doesn't take forever.

Glad to hear it, Melissa, I hope you come to love trading books on here as much as everybody else does. Once you get the hang of finding your books, you probably will :)

Hey Melissa! Don't ever think you  can't get an out of print book on here. Put it on your wishlist. Put it in your sig line. I joined in February and my first book on my WL was an out of print book I have been looking for for years.

2 weeks ago a new member pm'd me because they were having problems listing the book. The isbn showed it as being another book.  Being the really selfish person I am, I asked her to post it to my WL. LOL She did and it arrived on Saturday!  And I got it all because she saw my sig line in the forums and contacted me. I was last in line for that book!  (not a huge line but I am glad I didn' t have to wait for the 4 other people in front of me to get it)<G>

I don't go to my local library in the summer because I live outside town and have to drive and parking ect is such a problem in a tourist town. PBS is my library!
