The book Lark Rise by Flora Thompson is a fictionalized account of her childhood/youth (changed names, condensed characters, etc)  that came out in the late 1930's but set in the early 1890's.

Would this be considered historical fiction?

There is a surprising amount of debate about what constitutes historical fiction, though many accept that it is fiction in which the events took place at least 50 years before the author wrote the book, are not be based solely on personal experience, and should have involved some research. It sounds like Lark Rise might meet the 50-year rule but fails on the other criteria. So, some might consider it HF; others may not. But since the criteria and the definition of HF in general are open to interpretation, you can make your own determination!

Lisa, have you've seen the PBS series based on the book - Larkrise to Candleford? It's wonderful. It's sort of a cross between Downton Abbey and Little House on the Prairie. I streamed it thru Amazon Prime. It was worth the purchase price for amz prime.

Donna, I enjoyed this series too.  It was my introduction to the actor Brendan Coyle who played the father.  Since then he has played Mr. Bates on Downton Abbey, one of my favorite characters.  He is a great actor.
