Hello All, I'm new here and I have sent a couple books and rec'd a couple books...it's fun! I'm a bit puzzled, though, about how long I've been waiting for some books I requested a few weeks ago. They were marked as shipped and they just are not arriving. When I mail my books, (whether here or for sale on other sites) they always arrive within 5-7 days...whether I use first class or media mail (they usually arrive before 4 days!) So I'm not accustomed to waiting 3 weeks and still not rec'ving a book. I'm wondering if people say they have shipped a book but really they haven't...do they mark a book shipped and then not mail for a few weeks? I tried PMing the sender twice and have had no reply. How should I handle this situation? I'd appreciate any advice and feedback on this issue. Thanks! Gabi

First, I'd check to see where the book is coming from. If it's HI or AK, it will often take longer than continental U.S.

It's best just to wait it out. If it goes lost, you will get your credit back and the book will go to your transaction archive (or back on your wish list, if that's where it was before). If it goes to your archive, you can wait another week or so if you like, or go ahead and place an order with someone else.

I don't know what's up with the USPS lately. I've been an active member for over a year and had two books go lost just in the last 3 months. But this is not typical overall. In my experience when a book has been marked mailed it usually arrives quite quickly.

IIRC, it's 22 days from when a book is marked mailed before it's marked lost by the system. At this point, I think you just have to wait it out. And if it arrives with a very late post mark, be sure to note it on the survey when you mark it received.

Media mail can take up to 3-4 weeks, that is not unusual as it is put on the truck at the descretion of the postal service, if there is alot of first class then the media mail waits.  Sometimes though the books get lost and may or may not ever arrive.  There have been cases reported on here where senders mark them mailed and do not mail them for a couple weeks and even one mentioned today that the book was not mailed until the day the system marked it "lost".

The only thing you can do is let the system work, at the appropriate time they system will mark the book lost and you will get your credit back and will be placed back in the appropriate spot on the waiting list (usually first).  I'd try and wait at least 2 weeks before ordering another of the book that went lost because it may still show up and then you'd have two of them and would have spent 2 credits for the same book.

Keep in mind that books from Alaska and Hawaii do usually end up going lost before they arrive.

i've mailed books going to the same state, some of them got there in3 days, others it took 2 weeks. It all depends on the PO's and how much media they have coming and going.

Recently, I mailed 2 Game books on the same day.  I used DC and since I used the Mail To a Friend option-they showed up in my Enroute to Me tab as well the books I've sent tab.  I live in WA state. I mailed both books MM to the East Coast.  One book left WA right away and got across country and was delivered within 3 days.  The other book stayed in WA for over a week and took nearly 3 wks to get delivered.  Both were about the same size and stuck in the blue box at the same time.  I kept track of them because when you use the Mail To a Friend option you have to mark them as received instead of the recipient.

So just because your books are being delivered quickly-doesn't mean books coming to you are going to be as quick.  The main post office where they were mailed might be a lot busier than yours.  I know here there are a lot of little islands and all their mail goes basically to one distribution center that might be an hour+ away before it gets sorted.

I've had a few books that were marked mailed but never showed up.  Most of them, though, get here eventually and sometimes a couple of days after they've gone "lost."  One book I sent to Montana was "lost" for a week before it finally showed up!  It was amazing how long it took to get there.

I know what you mean about waiting, but you'll get over it.  In a few months, you probably won't even be giving it a second thought.  :-)

This just happened to me and I wasn't happy about it.

I requested a book on 3/25.  The member requested a ship date of 4/1 but didn't mark the book shipped until 4/2.  The request timed out in the system and was marked as "Lost in the Mail:".  Ok, no problem.....it happens.  Well, today I get the book and the member did not mail it until 4/17.  On top of this, it was actually returned to her for additional postage!

I, of course, marked the book as "received" without a problem but did sent a message to the member and notified PBS about the situation.  I told the member that a simple private message or e-mail to me to explain the situation would have been much appreciated.  I also suggested that, in the future, she should PM members when this situation occurs.  Luckily, I did not request an additional copy of the book from PBS or from another site that I trade on.  If I had, the situation could have been even worse for me.

I have RARELY had a book lost in the mail.  But I have had a few that were mailed well beyond the date the member reported it as being mail.  Maybe this is what is happening to you. (I would bet that it is.)  It would upset me even more that I wasn't getting a reply to my PMs.

I guess we have to take the good with the bad....like in any situation.  But, believe me, I feel you pain :-)

Because of some crazy things that have been happening in my life over the last few months (family medical emergencies, etc.), I'm one of the people guilty of sometimes mailing books out late.  But I do PM the requestor to let them know there's a problem.  But the post office is a problem, too.  I took three packages of books to the post office on the same day, all went out media mail.  Two of them were marked received in less than a week; the third one was marked lost by the system last week and apparently still hasn't shown up.  It was a 4-for-1 deal, and I feel bad that the requestor is losing out on some good reading.
