Okay, I am not familiar with ARC's or Uncorrected Proofs so will rely on pbser's for some help here... I wasn't able to get a clear answer in help center either ...

I have a book, The Secret History of the Pink Carnation by Lauren Willig ... ISBN#0525948600 ... When I type that into the box it does turn green but comes up with a hardcover (mine is soft cover) and completely different picture ... I know that sometimes ISBN's get assigend to two bindings ... But, here's the question:  In the bottom right hand corner of the book it says: advance uncorrected proofs not for sale ...  Does this mean it is an uncorrected proof and I can't post it?  Thanks in advance!

Hi Janet,

I would say it's an ARC.  You could post it as a freebie if you want.

Yep, that means it's not postable. I get a lot of ARCs for reviewing--they have a whole host of names. Uncorrected Proof, Advanced Reader's Copy, Reviewer's Copy, etc. It will say that somewhere on the front or back cover and it also should say "not for resale." I usually list the ones I have available on my profile as 'free with another order from my shelf." The only thing I hate about that is, most of the books on my shelf are mass mkt paperbacks and these are often big floppy trade paperbacks so packaging two of them together is a pain in the butt! But that is the only way you can legally trade an ARC here, and if you ever get a book in a regular swap here that's an ARC, it should be marked as "RWP" (Received With a Problem" because it's not postable!

Cheryl

I would all around the book to make sure it's not an ARC before you just give it away.  It'll say so somehwere on the book. Sometimes it's obvious and the book doesn't even really have a cover picture just Advanced REaders Copy on the front. Some times it's just a note on the back around the bar code.  It'll usually say Not For Resale and For Publishing Information please contact so and so.

I just wanted to add though: that I had the tradesize version of this and the ISBN brought up a papepback.  So I'm also leaning towards this one being an ARC.  You can join us in the Damaged Books Virtual box and use it in there.

Thanks.   I will assume this an ARC and offer it up in the appropriate forum ...  Merry Christmas!

<<advance uncorrected proofs not for sale>>

Janet, if it says this on the cover of your book, it is an ARC.

Cheers,

Catt
