If I have a wishlisted book, but want a different version of that same book, am I allowed to ask/trade for it? I just wanted to ask here first because it seems like every time I try to do something I'm in the wrong. Thanks :)

My understanding would be no, because you can't ask to jump the line on the wish listed book that you want.  You could P.M.Amanda S. (ABCatHomeor  Melanie D. (melanied), the volunteers who serve as Book Bazaar Czars, to ask if there is any way to do that, but since you'd be unlikely to be able to find one member who has the book you want, and wants the book you have, I can't picture how it could work.  The normal course would be that your book would be wanted by one set of members, and the book you want is owned by a different set.

Not sure that I understand -- you need to find, and wish for the version that you want --  not every edition of the title.  Doesn't the version you want have its own ISBN?   More info, please??

Anna, the book I have is green (a special edition I guess??) and the other two books in the trilogy are red and black, which wouldn't look very good together, so I was wondering if I could trade the green one for one that matches the other two. Does that make sense?

OK, you have a book on your Wishlist.  There should be a button that says (Expand Wish _ many more).  If you click on that button and one of the other versions posted says "Order Now" you can go ahead and order that book because it is already posted.  I found a book like that once where I wasn't picky about the version.  Do watch for Large Print versions though if you don't want that because often they are the available version.

It seems you were posting while I was composing this and it doesn't really pertain.  If you did find a posted book I would PM first as the cover isn't required to match the pictured cover according to PBS rules.

Sometimes publishers release the same book/same ISBN with different promotional covers, is that what you mean? If the cover you are looking for has the same ISBN as the book you have; you can WL it and have an RC specifying the specific version of the cover you want. If it's an altogether different ISBN but still WL then the same thing applies, have an RC for the cover you want. For a non-WL book you can just order from someone but make sure you have the RC so you get what you want.

You can't really trade book-for-book with anyone, according to TOU.  Besides, any member who already has a copy likely will not want your copy since they're posting theirs.  Though I guess unofficial swaps do happen. If the copy you have is WL you could just post it to get the credit and you'll need to wait for the one you want to be offered to you and comply with your RC. Or check the WL multiples to see if anyone there has it.

No.

If I understand you right you a have book, lets say the Hardcover, that is wish listed and you want to offer it up saying you will trade if for another version, say the trade sized paperback. This kind of scenario would violate a few rules.

One, book-for book trading is only allowed in the Box-o-Books system, which works off of our Bookshelves. So you have to be Boxer and the books traded there are not wish listed books since they are on our Bookshelves.

Two, wish listed books can only be offered in the Wish List Multiples thread under the rules there. You'd have to offer multiple WL books and you could require anyone to request anything from you.  (Yes, I assume the offer would be made in the Book Bazaar where offers are supposed to be made).

The general rule is that postable Wish List books can only be swapped officially (posted and requested through the system). The only exception to that rule is the Wish List Multiples thread in the Bazaar.
