I know lots of you have book blogs and I am considering doing one myself so I can try to for a chance at reading and reviewing books before they are out there... but I have a few questions.

  • What (for you) are the benefits of keeping a blog? (personal journal, prizes, perks?)
  • How often do you submit posts?
  • How do you acquire and keep followers?
  • How do you get in on the ARC tours?
  • What are some things to avoid if I'm going to give it a try?

I have one created, and I've done a few posts but I have not put my blog addres out there to anyone because I don't want it to be stupid. Ha ha I thought I would see if anyone had any advice to give first.

Thanks!

for advice on book blogs, especially YA book blogs, visit The Story Siren's blog. she has a lot of FAQ's and info about book blogging for newbies.

I have one that I hardly ever post on - but I used to keep it pretty active.

For me:

  • What (for you) are the benefits of keeping a blog? (personal journal, prizes, perks?) - I liked writing reviews and having people comment on them - sometimes even the author posted a comment!  That was the best I think - Heather Blake and Jeffery Cohen were two that I can think of.  Sometimes with books that I really loved, I would email the author and let them know I had posted a glowing review.
  • How often do you submit posts? - I would review every book.
  • How do you acquire and keep followers? - The best way to acquire followers is to be a follower.  Let other book bloggers know you have a blog.  Join blog rings.
  • How do you get in on the ARC tours? - Librarything.com has an Early Reviewers group and you can sign up each month to get ARCs.  Subscribe to newsletters like Shelf Awareness and they have links to sign up to get ARCs.
  • What are some things to avoid if I'm going to give it a try? - I finally had to stop and take a break because I had too many ARCs and not enough time to read and review them.  I just hated that publishers sent me a free book and I never read it.  So definitely start slow and pace yourself!
