I was given a bunch of thriller-types and Coben's LONG LOST was in the bag. While I like Coben enough, I haven't read the Bolitar series. I'm wondering how different these are from his single titles, and whether it's worth hunting down the first books.

Fictfact shows LONG LOST as the last book (so far) in the series so that means glomming the 8 others - will it be worth it? With a TBR mountain I have, I hate to spend valuable reading time, money or credits on a series that may be so-so. An input will be greatly appreciated.

I loved this series so I say yes it's worth it.  I haven't read many of his stand alones so I can't really say how they compare.  But this series was really good.  There's sort of a black comedy aspect.

I too love the Bolitar series, so I'd say yes, grab the first one and see if you like it - if not, you haven't wasted much. I've got the stand alones, but I haven't ready of any them yet.

I liked the Bolitar series a lot.  Went through all that were available pretty quickly.   I liked the inside look at sports management.  Interesting characters and plots.

3 for 3. I'm going for it. I'll request the first book from the library and take it from there. You never know what you're passing up when you give a book away, you know? Could be a real gem!

Thanks for the input everyone.

The library e-mailed me, the first Bolitar book is in, I'll be picking it up Saturday morning. The library is *finally* back to their regular hours and is now open on the weekends. Long summer not being able to go there Saturday mornings especially since I was close by at the p.o. mailing PBS books.

Update: I finished the first book yesterday and enjoyed it a lot. I'll definitely be reading my way through the whole series.

I have read both the stand alones and most of the series. Coben is just a great writer period. The Bolitar series dates itself sometimes but it is still fun.

Glad you enjoyed it Gail, the series has some unusual characters, but it makes you keep reading!

I love Harlan Coben. The character of Win in the Bolitar series is fabulous! I'm glad you liked it!

I've also read everything by Coben.  He is terrific, and I just love the Myron Bolitar series.  I am now lending them, in order, to a woman I work with.  In one week, she's up to the third in the series!  I <heart> Win.

Had to weigh in on this thread because I LOVE every Harlan Coben I've read which is about 2/3 of what he's written. I did like the Bolitar series, but I do like the stand alones a bit better. The Bolitar series are quick reads for a break during other readings. I just ordered Caught his latest - can't wait to get it.

Check out the Book Bazaar thread that is titled October WL Multiples -- people list books that are WL'd and they want to ship out 2 or more to same person to save on postage. In the past month, I have probably got 20 books off my WL plus a bunch more from their book shelves. Now my TBR pile is about 15 years worth of reading. LOL
