I just received a book that has a large white spot (2 inches by 1 1/2 inches roughly) on the back cover where something was removed--and took most of the paper on the cover with it. In this area, the cover is now about the same thickness as the paper used for the pages and will be much easier to rip. I reread the condition guidelines and didn't see one that really covered this scenario since it isn't a text page rip. Did I miss it? Is this a grey area sort of thing?

I have to contact the sender anyway because despite my RC, the book was ex-library complete with stamps, stickers, and thick glue tracks where the checkout card holder used to be. If the issue on the cover is an actual violation, I'll mention it as well but I don't want to mention it to the sender if that's just a matter of me being picky.

Help! Thanks. :)

I read the following from the

Book Condition Guidelines:

If you feel your book falls into a "grey area", you can either post the book and send a Personal Message to the requestor, or not post the book.  We have delineated what we can, and we expect members to follow these guidelines, and use their common sense in cases that are unclear.  If you would not mind "paying" a credit for a book you are considering posting, then it is probably okay to post.  However, book condition can be a subjective matter.  Keep in mind that a pattern of sending out poor-condition or inappropriate books will jeopardize a sender's membership.

They probably pulled off a sticker ( or someone did) and in those cases leaving the stickers alone is the best course.  In this you'll probably have to decide yourself.  If I were to keep it I'd add a sticker back just to protect the book from further harm.

Are you already asking for the return of your credit because of the RCs?  If so then why not mention it?

Even if this is a grey area of the guidelines, I wouldn't expect to receive a book with part of the artwork lifted from the cover (even if it is the back cover).  Some Ppl set a book down on the counter, Oops, water stains, and they don't post it.
