I know Media Mail may not contain any advertising. I like to send all my books wrapped in plastic though and was wondering if using say a CVS or Walgreens bag to wrap the book in would deem it unacceptable because it could be advertising? Thanks.

No Nancy, that is recycling of packing material.  It's the book/bound material itself that must qualify for the rate.  Unless you are making an obvious effort to include advertising as packing material (ie a handful of business cards & brochures) then it's considered incidental.

ETA - PBS members recycle plastic (and other packing materials) all the time, and I've not seen any comments posted that it's been a problem.
