Hi, I just joined this last week. I'm very excited that one of my books was requested & I sent it out and I got to request one I've been wanting for a long time.

Questions: What do the stars mean on the right side. Am I supposed to evaluate with those or did someone else or???

I am on only interested in audio cassettes. Is there a BOB in audio cassettes?

What do the numbers mean beside the books?

When a question is answered will I be alerted at my email or can I set it up so I will?

Is it possible to change my email?

Thanks everyone. You sound like a great group & I feel priviledged to join

I can answer some of your questions: What do the stars mean on the right side. Am I supposed to evaluate with those or did someone else or??? Those are rating stars; other members have rated books, and you can also use the stars to rate how you liked a book. When you rate a book, the stars will turn from blue to yellow, and the book will be added to your "books I've read" list. What do the numbers mean beside the books? The numbers next to the stars show how many people have rated the book. Is it possible to change my email? Yes -- go to settings under the "my account" tab. There are many many features to this site. "Browse help documents" under the help center is a very handy way to search for information. Also, if you hover your mouse over something (like the number next to the rating stars), there is often an explanation.

Welcome Joy,

I will try to help you best I can as I am a relatively new member also.  Warning:  This place is addictive.   lol

If the stars you are speaking of are blue, you use those to rate books.  If you click on them they turn yellow.  Left star is you didn't like.  Right Star you love.  I also think if you use them to rate a book, the book goes on your BIR (books ive read) list.

If you want to change your email, I believe you have to contact PBS.  There is a link, bottom right corner of the screen under Company.  You can also direct all your questions to your tour guide  (TG) or if you click on the Help Center Tab at the top of the page, live help.   Not sure about the other stuff, but I am sure others here will answer those questions.

Welcome to our addiction, pardon, group...lol.

Questions:

  1. What do the stars mean on the right side. Am I supposed to evaluate with those or did someone else or???
  2. I am on only interested in audio cassettes. Is there a BOB in audio cassettes?
  3. What do the numbers mean beside the books?
  4. When a question is answered will I be alerted at my email or can I set it up so I will?
  5. Is it possible to change my email?

Answers:

  1. You can evaluate if you want to.  It's not necessary but I think it helps other people decide on a book or not - it does me anyway.
  2. I don't know about that but I'm not a Boxer.  I haven't heard of one though.  Audios are 2 credits so there might be someone who does that.
  3. How many people have rated them.  Not necessarily how many people have read it.
  4. You'd be alerted if you have clicked on Watch This Topic.  It's on the right in a couple of places
  5. Go to settings and you can definately change your e-mail

As for the audio cassette thing: you can search the Boxer shelves before joining. So you can just search and see if any boxers have audio cassettes.   I imagine some do.  I see people offering deals on audio cassette books pretty often as they dont' get ordered as quickly as CDS.

Thank you all for giving me such quick & succinct answers to my questions. This group is definitley addictive! I need to work Sunday bcs I spent all day Friday learning abt this PBS. It sure is nice to be in with such a group of wonderful people tho. One more question. Is there an easy way to check out wish lists without going to each person's profile? There is a senior center here that has loads of books 4 sale. If I can get a list of people's wish liststhat I can print out, then I can take the list over & purchase the  books & trade them for the audio cassetes I want. Then everbody wins. I'm in SoCal. Goodness knows with the terminator in power, our senior center needs every cent just before he throws the seniors, the children's programs, the children's health under the bus while he's "euthanizing" our pets after 3 days in the shelter. Oops are we allowed to be just a little political here?

You have 2 choices - you can go to Search tab and click on club Wish List.  Or (my favorite way) subscribe to the Daily Wish List.  It is done by genres so that you can choose to look at the genres you will most likely see.  Be aware that these lists can range up into the high hundreds, but they don't take too long to go through.  After a few times you will start to see patterns in what is most wanted.

There's really no way to print out the whole WL as there would be thousands of books.  When I first joined I did what Ruth suggested and just looked up various genres and got a feel for what's WL.

Paranormals, Erotica, cookbooks tend to go fast.  Stay away from the mega popular authors like James Patterson, NOra Roberts, Danielle Steel, John Grisham etc., Their books tend to only be WL when it's a brand new release and then it goes from WL to hundreds posted  in a very short period.  A lot of them have books with literally over 1,000 copies in the system already.  So if you don't plan to read them first-not worth the investment just to get credits.

If you look under the search drop down list there's lists of the top 50 most posted books and most WL books.
