I am looking for books to help my Scholar Bowl team with studying. We are struggling with what to study, there is such a wide variety of material that is covered and it seems like we are behind before we get started. They've asked me for more homework for the team and I am more than happy to oblige, but I'm trying to think of what to give them that isn't re-inventing the wheel. Any ideas? I found a book today that I think will help with Shakespeare's plays, it puts them all into poems and I think I'll have a couple of them memorize the poems (all the major characters and plot points are covered...) I know it's terrible, but for us to have a fighting chance we have to study trivia, not read the full play. Thank you for any books you can suggest. |

When I was in high school, we took the soliloquies in Shakespeare's plays and translated them into modern day English. it helped with not only understanding what was being said, but in memorizing it. Might make for a good "homework" assignment for them. Also, with Shakespeare, watching the movies or plays can aid in understanding them as long as you find the traditionally done ones, not the modernized. There is a book called the Harp and Laurel Wreath which contains classical poems and snippets of stories for dictation purposes and includes study questions. |
