I was wondering if it is possible to place RC on only one book. I don't need the RC to be placed on everything because I normally don't care. However this book is going on my keeper shelf and is to finish off a series. It is an older book with many copies in the system. I really don't want someones version if it is not in like new condition. I am more than willing to wait if my RC gets denied. I just don't want to have it go out on all request because normally the PBS posting guidleines are sufficient.

There's no way to add an RC to just one book. What you can do is write something like "If this book is XXXX by the author XXXX, then please decline if the book is not in excellent condition."

I don't have experience with this personally, but I've heard other members suggest this method:

DON"T put the book on Auto Request.
Prior to accepting the book, write up your RC & save it ("This is to complete a Keeper series, so I will only accept a book in *like new* condition" or whatever).
Accept the book.
Remove the RC.

Now, if there was another book offered to you at the same time, it would have the RC attached to it, too, but the chances are small if you're not ordering other books at the same moment.  Good luck!

ETA - The benefit of this method is avoiding the confusion of having an RC on every order that only applies to one, single, unique book.

Actually you can turns RCS on and off. So you can create an RC, order the book wiht the RC in place. Then turn the RC off for future requests.  The request for the RC book will just keep passing on to the next person until someone accepts the RC. (I woulnd't on an older book but someone might)

You can add the RC to one request.

  1. Go in and add your RC for this book, toggle the drop down to YES and click the Update button below the box. (I usually leave the page and then go back in just to confirm it did update.)
  2. Go request the book
  3. Go in and remove the RC and toggle to NO and click the Update button below the box. (I usually leave the page and then go back in just to confirm it did update.)

Your RC will remain with that request through any denials/cancellations until the system gets you the book. Once you've toggled the RC to NO, it won't be put on any other request. The only way it would get on another request is if you happened to get a Wish List offer during the time you were doing this.

Yeah, I would take any autorequested WL books off autorequest while the RC is up.  So you have time to choose not to use it on other books.

I have books on my WL that for various reasons will need an RC if I actually request them.  I have all of those books on 48 hour hold so that I can add the RC when one appears in the system.
