Excellent story of post-nuclear holocaust. Society has determined that only humans who meet the norm shall be allowed; all mutations are punished and not allowed to reproduce. The main characters in this exciting drama are, of course, deviants whose mutation does not immediately show. One of John Wyndham's best.

Also published under the title The Chrysalids.
