Just received a book with a separated binding. Is this bad enough to RWAP it?

I hope this link works.

I won't feel comfortably listing it again.(see last post)

Thanks, Christina

I can't really tell from the pictures.

PBS rules say that a book can be posted, even if it opens to a page. So, if the binding is separated to the point where the book opens to a page, it is still OK.

PBS has clarified before, that if all the pages are securely attached, and the binding is not completely separated, it is still OK.

If the pages are starting to come loose or the binding is in 2 pieces, then it is not poatable.

The first picture looked okay to me but the second one would make me not want to post it.

Hi Sara,

Where can I find that clarification? Is it here in the forums? The help documents only say "no separation inside or outside". Thanks that would be of great help. I will do a search meanwhile.

Here's a post that may help. The clarification is directly from paperbackswap and it's included in the 12th post on this thread:

http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=150725

We would not consider a pinhole to be a cleaved spine. Books that fall open to a specific page are postable, and almost every paperback book that does that has at least some small separations.

What matters here is if the pages are securely attached. If they are likely to fall out on the next reading, then the book should not be posted. We really cannot clarify this any further. We need members to use their common sense and best judgment about whether a book is about to fall apart or not. This is just not something we can judge without having the books in our hands.

Alan,

Thanks so much for the link to that post. This clears it up for me. This separation is still solid. No page is loose or about to fall out. So, it is not an unpostable and I would even feel comfortable reposting it myself with this clarification to back me up. It is not a pretty separation but still a very solid binding. And now I have a couple other books I can post that I have in my "presumed" unpostable pile that meet this same criteria.

Blessings, Christina

P.S. Thanks Sara and Dawn for your opinions!!!!
