Hi,

I just received two books that I requested a long time ago. In fact, these were the two for which I was having so much trouble on the RC because I'm at a DPO. I'm a bit confused. Normally, when I check in to mark something received, I have three options:

Yes

Yes with a problem

Not yet.

Today, on these two books, (which she marked as being mailed a week before she even printed out her own postage!) this was not an option. My only options were "yes" or "not yet."

And, there was  problem. Albeit a tiny one. There is a tear in the cover, which she didn't mention. In fact, she never communicated with me at all, not for the RCs, not for the 2nd request, when I said "I have another address" not for the 3rd request, when I just put my other address in, not when they were sent or anything.

YES, I realized she doesn't have to.

And YES, these are old books, at least 20 years old, so I didn't expect them to be pristine. I wasn't going to ask for a credit back, mostly just say "hey, I thought torn covers were unpostable..."

But mostly, I'm just baffled that RWAP wasn't even an option for me. Anybody know why?

If you had the book sent to a different address than you have on file, you won't see the RWAP button.

  • The system presumes that an alternate address means an alternate recipient, and that you will not be examining the book yourself.

Robin - Per the rules: a small rip (less than 1 inch) in the cover is OKAY.

So unless the tear is longer than an inch, the book is not unpostable.

Did you have them shipped to a different address then what PBS shows as your ship to address?  You can't RWP when you ship to a different address.  So if you are using an alternate address to avoid the APO/DPO RC then you need to make that your primary address with PBS and not put it in as an alternate when ordering a book.

Ok, I did have it shipped to a different address.

And it's not a tear in the cover, so much as the cover itself is missing an area...frankly, it's probably about exactly 1" square (where the brown underpaper from the cover, not the next page) shows through. It just would have been nice to know.

Thanks!!!

Robin

The cover can be missing about a square inch and it is still postable.

As it it postable a heads up is not normally something given.

I am happy you got the books though, I know it can be a pain to get people to ship to such addresses!
