I think I know the answer to this question, but I have so few problems with books I get through PBS that I thought I should “poll the audience”. I ordered a paperback that should have been a 1991 printing of an older book, but I received a copy of a 1970 printing of the same book with a very early “ISBN” that is not recognized by the system. The sender (not a new member) should have posted it without an ISBN but instead chose to post it with the wrong ISBN. The book is unpostable with a very torn front cover (two tears of several inches each) and minor liquid damage. The back cover and several pages fell off while I was paging through the book inspecting the liquid damage. My question is do I mark it RWAP for “Wrong Book – Wrong Binding/Version” or for “Damaged by Sender”? I think that it doesn't matter. Neither reason will automatically get my credit back, correct?

I hardly ever RWAP, but this is just too much.  I never would have ordered a 40 year old paperback if the book data had been entered correctly. As it was, I felt I was taking a risk ordering a 20 year old paperback.

I would go with the Wrong Book-Wrong Binding/Version because the ISBN did not match. Incidently, you do not automatically get your credit back -- it is requested for you but it is up to the sender to refund your credit. If you do not get it within 7 days, mark the transaction "unresolved" in your Transaction Archive. And if your credit IS refunded be sure and mark the transaction "resolved" in your Transaction Archive. (An unresolved problem transaction also goes as a black mark against an offending member's account, along with the black mark earned for sending a RWAP.)

I think you can just take your pick of which RWAP to use (wrong book/wrong biding would be my irst choice), but be sure to mention every single problem with the book when you PM the sender. And be sure to use the PM option within the transaction itself, so that your messages back and forth will be attached to the transaction. This could come in handy if the person't account ever gets reviewed.

For some senders it would be nice if we could check multiple boxes.  I'd think the wrong ISBN is probably the first problem because it should never have been posted to a different ISBN.  That seems to be the number 1 PBS rule.
