Today I received a book with water damage. It's  HB and the cover is not only obviously water stained but warped. The DJ shows signs of water damage as well plus there's mold between the back cover the DJ with evidence of it on both.

I did mark it RWAP but am not asking for the return of my credit. It's just that I cannot relist it and I could not it good conscience mark it received in good condition.

I can't tell if the sending member is a newby or just overwhelmingly unobservant as there is no profile. Still after 7yrs here I'm amazed to be receiving books in such deplorable condition. My RC refers only to smoke, I thought the club rules were clear enough on water damage but I may nee to revamp my RC. Just recently I had a book request from another member with a a polite water damage RC stating she knew it was a club rule but she'd received too many with water damage. Can only hope breaking the condition rules isn't becoming a trend.

I also just received a book with some sort of liquid damage to a few pages. I told the sender that I wasn't asking for a credit back. I was just informing them that per the club rules, you can't post books with any kind of liquid damage, and that I could not repost the book. They sent me back my credit and said that she enjoyed the book and thought I would also enjoy it. It may be readable, but it's not postable. So, basically they knew that it had liquid damage and posted it anyway. I wonder if it's the same person.

Sorry you received a yucky book. You should have asked for the credit back. I had to add liquid damage to my RC as it seems a lot of members are unaware of the book conditions.

The sender returned my credit although I did not ask for it. There were the usual excuses of not having read the book and so not realizing it was damaged, I suggested the sender review the club rules on postable book conditions in order to avoid future RWAPs.

Still, the not having read it excuse does not excuse sending something with mold in it!  Yuck.  It's easy to flip thru a book before you wrap it up.  If the damage is as noticeable as you say, it would have easily been caught by a quick flip thru.

My suggestion about reviewing the rules was not so well taken as the member assured me she'd been here 10yrs. Surprising then that she didn't notice the water damage, especially as it was on the poutside of the book by and large with the back cover warped out of shape.

I get the excuse that the book was received that way. One told me she will have to increase her standards. I said it wasn't my fault that she accepted an unpostable book. I have a feeling they get away with it most of the time so keep doing it.

I agree, Rebecca.  They get away with it a time or two and then figure it's worth taking a chance.

Sorry that happened to you, Marya - I hope that some alcohol wipes or some such will at least allow you to read the book - but, wow, don't put it anywhere near other books!  Glad that you got your credit back.  I can't imagine putting a book in the mail without checking it over - especially if I'd never read it....

I'd have asked for my credit back.  I've read books with water damage, but mold?  No way.  Straight in the trasharoo.  When I receive unpostable books, they're invariabily water damaged, and not damage that happened in transit.

My RWAPs have been few, but all been due to water damage, and it is very rare that I have received my credit back. The craziest was the lady who sent me a very mildewed book, then when I RWAP, she went off about my minor problem while her husband was cheating on her, etc. Okayyyy, needless to say, I just let it go. Thankfully, they are few and far between.
