I just opened the pristine packaging surrounding a book I had really been looking forward to keeping. Inside, the book is in three pieces with the middle section completely fallen out of the book (not bound to the cover in any way) and the back section is hanging on to the cover by just a hair. I couldn't figure out how anyone could convince themself that it was postable until I realized that the sender politely attached two little loops of scotch tape to the inside of the cover at the spine in an effort to keep the sections from falling out.

This earns the title of worst effort to hide an posted unpostable as far as I'm concerned. How about you? Do you have an experience that can top this? (If so, I'm sorry to hear it)

It'd be funny if it wasn't so unbelieveably rude.

I haven't even been able to PM the person yet. Somehow every time I try to write a strong yet polite PM the phrase 'what the $%&& were you thinking?!' intrudes.

::sigh:: At least it's a fairly common book so I'll be able to replace it.

I received a book last week that was horrible water damaged. It looked like it was soaked in water. The pages were bloated and the ink had even smeared. The packing was completely dry and showed no signs on water damage at all. It was a manilla envelope, so it would have been obvious if it had gotten wet during transit. The book was also wrapped in plastic.

I've also received a book that had small portions of almost every page cut away. On a few there were obvious burn marks, so my only assumption is that the sender tried to cover up the burn damage by cutting the damaged sections away.

It's nice to know I'm not alone although I am sorry you folks have had issues too. : )

Oh well, I just  keep reminding myself of all of the beautiful books I've received here that went above and beyond expectation. I've had the highs (so to speak), so I guess it's time to suck it up and cope with the lows. Even if this really does frost my cookies...

I received one very similar to yours redwingsgal.  In the same week I also received one that was filthy - I mean like it had been buried in dirt with a nasty smell.  Then the one with half the front cover torn off and an ARC.  Mind - this was all in the same week!

I am sitting here shaking my head as I have been paranoid about posting a wishlist book with pbs conditions met because of a remainder mark.  OY!!

Wow, Geri! What a week! I think stinky and seemingly buried in dirt may trump falling apart, LOL.

Adrienne, That remainder mark doesn't seem so bad now, does it? : ) (BTW, not that you asked, but my $0.02--post it, it's PBS legal. )

I actually once got a book where in one of the chapters literally every other word had not been printed.  It was like reading a coded message.  Clearly, not the sender's fault since it was a printing problem, and I think probably not noticeable if you hadn't read the book.  Pretty funny!

I was reading a book from the library that wasn't printed correctly. About 50 pages were completely blank!  It was so annoying!

I am sorry about your unpostable. :( They are never fun.

I've heard that the publishers will usually replace books with printing errors, probably assuming the book is new or close to new :-)

I just marked my first  book RWAP(actually its a book on cd that I think has mold on ALL the cd's....the box and cd covers have def been wet ! !).  Anyway, when ya'll report a book RWAP and pm the sender (which I've done) politely requesting your credis be returned,  are your issues usually resolved?  I've pm'd her 3 times with no response (I've reported that also)....I'm not a newbie....I've just been very lucky with all the books I've received

Thanks

Pat

Sadly I have my first problem book and it was a wishlist book.  It looks like it was dropped in water and it smells.  The water damage is really bad on the back cover.  The ink has bleed red on the inside and the pages at the top have some water damage.  Hopefully I will get my credit back

:(

I haven't really gotten any really bad RWAP books.  I had one book that about  10 pages of the book had been cut out.  She offered to refund the credit, but told her no.  I can alwasy get another copy if i want to.  I bought a paperback at one of the big book stores years ago.  The first three chapters were  attached into the book upside down.  The book store replaced the book for me.

Sadly my person has responded saying I have no idea how it got damaged.  She is a new member-only on this site 2 weeks and claims all her other transactions have gone well so I must be wrong that her book has water damage.  argh   :(

I once got a book that had the last page missing. Of course I didn't know it till I got to the end. It was a popular enough romance, so I went to the romance forum and someone was kind enough to type up the last page for me to read. Thank God for the kind members of PBS!

I have yet to get any nasty books.. I deal with enough of those at work each day as I was reassigned to do mending *sighs* sorry poo does NOT belong on DVDs and nail polish does not fill in scratches on CDs especially if its black or red..

I do remember someone posting about a book they had recieved from PBS that had a human long hairs between each page for like 100 pages of the book.. EWWWW!

Wow! It's nice to know I'm not alone in this one. I've had so many good swaps that it never occured to me that people would actually try to get away with this sort of nonsense. Luckily our good swaps far outnumber the bad, right? = )
