"The Rainbow Trail" is a sequel to Zane Grey's "Riders of the Purple Sage". Both are my favorite Zane Grey tales, and I re-read them every few years.

Shefford was a wanderer escaping his past and searching for a phantom,a story that had gotten hold of him and wouldn't let go.Back im Illinois he heard that the gunfighter Lassiter, his woman, and a girl named Fay were trapped in a hidden valley in Utah territory. Now,Shefford was following rainbows, thinking he could find them, rescue them, and win the girl's love. But alone in the wild desert he had to prove his worth, fighting Mormons and outlaws to reach the captives...battling his own inner demons to set them all free.
