Very enjoyable book. Part of the story involves a single mother in the 1930s(?) struggling with an autistic child, when very little was known about it at the time. Having an autistic child myself, it is difficult to imagine how much worse this challenge would be if we knew even LESS than we know now! Wonderful story about finding love in a surprising, bittersweet way, with a backdrop of racial/class struggles. Nothing like her other books. (though I've enjoyed those too) Her protagonist, Mr. Rainwater is a man after any woman's heart, I think. Swoon!
