When Walt Shipley swore he'd bring sheep to Signal Bench, Frank Ivey ran him out of town. Then Shipley's woman vowed revenge. She had Dave Nash and a crew of hardcases to back her. Nash knew he should drift -- but he was hair-triggered for trouble and this range war was shaping up to be his kind of fight -- vicious.

Dave Nash was a drifter, not a talker. But if you cowpunched for a man, you fought for him, too-like it or not. Even if that man was a bragging fool like Walt Shipley. Shipley had dared Signal Bench's biggest ranchers to stop him from bringing in sheep. And when Frank Ivey took up the dare with fists and firepower, Nash stuck. It wasn't just a matter of loyalty. It was something about the lust for vengeance in Shipley's woman that make Nash throw in for a certain massacre.
