I didn't notice this when I recieved the book and marked it received.  It's in fine condition, no writing in the text, no water damage.  In fact it looks like it might have been read once.

But!  The top right hand corner of the cover (tpb) is torn about a quarter of the way down and goes from about an inch at the top down to the edge.

It's not a problem for me I'm just wondering if I'll be able to post it?

Thanks all for the information on torn covers.  I sure didn't know that!

I PM'd the sender:

I received the (title) and marked it received but didn't notice that the cover was torn.  It's actually missing a piece that starts about an inch from the right edge and runs down at a diagonal for about two inches.

You may or may not be aware of this because I wasn't until recently.  Just thought I'd share this with you.

From the guidlines:

Cover:
• Must both be present (front and back)
o note that a paperback missing its front cover is  usually an illegal, unsold copy
o "cover" does not = dust jacket.  Hardcovers do not need to include their dust jackets to be swapped here.
• Cover not water damaged (there may be no water damage to any part of the book)
• Cover not torn or chewed/gnawed
o some used book stores cut out a small part of the cover; if the amount missing is less than 1 inch, this is OKAY
o a small rip (less than 1 inch) in the cover is OKAY
o yes, that does say "chewed/gnawed" above.  That means no pet-chewed (or human-chewed) books.
• A bookplate inside the cover or on the flyleaf is OKAY

I wish I could have bolded in the PM as I did here.

Don't know what response I'll get if any.  But, in the help section it also says the sender has a week to get back with a response and if they don't I can let PBS know about the situation.

Well, come to find out she was a newbie and didn't know about the torn cover rule.  Actually I posted a couole of books today and though the missing cover is mentioned there is nothing mentioned about torn covers there.  So if it wasn't for checking out the forums I wouldn't have known either.

Thankfully the sender was very nice - I was afraid I'd have a hassle - gave me the credit back already!  Hooray a good transaction plus someone has requested the unpostable too.

I cannot follow what you are describing but tears the cover are allowed up to 1", any thing longer than 1" is not postable.

Melanie,

The tear starts about an inch in from the right edge of the cover.  Then it tapers down at an angle for about two inches to end at the right edge,

Kind of like this:

\\\\\
  \\\\
    \\\
     \\
       \

I'm in the dark ages - no digital camera.

It sounds like something that I wouldn't post. Anything beyond that 1" on covers is a nono to me.  Add yet another title to your unpostable list.  Mine grew by another book today!  ;(

I suspected it was unpostable but just wanted to be sure.  Now, is there a way to let someone know that it was RWAP rather than just received?  I don't want to get into a conversation with the person who sent it - then again I should just to point out that torn covers are unacceptable.  Hmmmm gotta look into this.
