One of many fine novels by van de Wetering, the Dutch author. The description of life in the Frieland part of The Netherlands is absorbing. 10th novel in the Amsterdam Cops Series

Douwe Scherjoen has been murdered, far from his native Friesland. This remote province of Holland is almost like a foreign country, so it's fortunate that Detective Grijpstra was born there. He heads across the dike... "Van de Wetering has plotted his cases satisfyingly well for those who relish the puzzle. But the puzzle element is not paramount.
