How often do you read reviews here on PBS for the books you are interested in receiving? A lot of times I forget to even check the reviews here before ordering because I already know I want the book. But sometimes after I have finished a book I will go back and look at the reviews because I am curious to see what other members thought. Do the reviews here influence your choices?

Nope, the reviews don't influence my choices at all. I read what I feel like. But, like you, sometimes I'll go back after I've read something and look at the reviews. |

I almost never read the reviews and when I do it's just when I'm browsing the site in general. I don't read them before I order..I'm usually ordering something i know I want or following a friend's recommendation...so the reviews still wouldn't influence me. |

When I come here to look for a book, it's usually for my son, so I will do a quick run thru of the reviews, just to make sure I know what he's asking for - can't let the teenager get one by me - LOL If it's for me, I generally know enough about it that I don't need any more info on it. Once in a great while I'll look, but I usually just order, and move on (for my books). |

I actually read them pretty often. I trust the reviews here more than I do anywhere else. I write reviews for books here that I checked out from the library too, and I assume other people do the same. I'm sure some people write positive reviews for books they didn't really like, trying to move them from their shelf, but a lot of people will tell you if a book stunk. I like to get a feel of what everyone in general thought. |

I usually review library books here, too. I have no problem with negative comments (my review of "Lily Dale" by Christine Wicker, for example), but if I really dislike a book I don't tend to finish it, so it doesn't get reviewed at all. I do consult the reviews here before ordering books, especially if I'm grabbed by the title (or author) of a book I'd hadn't heard of previously, but that isn't the sole criterion for me.

Always and yes, they do influence my decision. For example, a lot of times by reviews you can tell that they might be, for instance, rather light and fluffy. Sometimes I do enjoy reading light and fluffy during stressful times, but if I have plenty of those to read anyway I might use my credit for something a little different. Sometimes I can't figure out by the book description, but the members' reviews often answer any lingering questions I might have. Sometimes, too, I know that I don't want to use a credit but rather will get it from the library. So I value those reviews, even the ones that aren't of professional quality! |

I read them quite a bit, especially with new authors. |

I'm the same way, John. If a book is truly bad, I don't get that far into it, so I never review it. I figure it wouldn't be fair....after all, it could have picked up considerably by the end, although I doubt it. |

I pretty much always read the reviews when I'm ordering a book. They may or may not influence my decision, but I definitely want to know what others here thought of them. Also, I'm a compulsive enough reader that I read cereal boxes and ingredient lists on my shampoo bottle, so how could I not read them? :D Sharon |

I read them sometimes, especially if it's over a series I really enjoy. |

I love to read the reviews. If it's a book that I have my heart set on, someone else's opinion isn't going to change that. If its one that I come across and think might be interesting, six reviews saying that its not very good, or several raving about it, would affect my decision. I love to write my own review, too. |

I like reading the reviews, even for books I'm not interested in. It's interesting how the writers convey why or why not they liked the book. |
