I am sort of a gadget geek and am always looking for cool, new gadgets to make my reading life easier. Reading lights, book marks, book covers, etc. So, I'd like to find out if there is anything out there I am missing out on. I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours. My favorite book light: http://www.amazon.com/Rayovac-Reading-Light-Bar/dp/B001W2CK8U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1255305524&sr=8-2 New light I ordered but haven't really tried out yet: http://campcomfort.typepad.com/camp_comfort/2009/04/hug-light.html (I generally use a book light when I go visit my parents) Book stand for reading while I eat lunch at work: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_2_11?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=paperback+caddy&sprefix=paperback+c (this thing is the bomb!) I have several of these book covers. This lady is fabulous to work with and has a large assortment of fabrics: http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Handmade-By-Mom-N-Me__W0QQ_armrsZ1QQ_fsubZ2QQ_scZ1QQ_sopZ1 And of course, my Franklin electronic dictionary: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_0_12?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=franklin+dictionary&sprefix=franklin+dic Okay, your turn! I'm assuming everyone is okay with me posting this thread here, for those of us who don't really like to hang out at CMT. Let me know if you feel otherwise. I think it's fine to post here, Twill. I venture into CMT once in a blue moon so never know what's going on there--which is often a GOOD thing! That said...I am a gadgetless reader when it comes to paper and ink books. Unless you count my "cheaters," the reading glasses from the drug store. I've got about ten pairs of those laying around in different rooms, my purse, at work, etc. Aside from that, it's me and my book. My bookmark is whatever piece of paper I find lying around--supermarket receipts, gum wrappers, the corner ripped off a magazine...and a few real bookmarks too, but they often get misplaced or laid aside for months at a time. Don't use reading lights or book covers or anything. For my audio books, I download from the library and either listen directly from my computer or on my MP3 player. Occasionally will get the CD version if they don't have download available, and then use my computer or the car's CD player. That's as gadety as I get. Cheryl |

Hmmm, guess I'm the only gadget geek here. And yes, Cheryl, I have about a zillion pairs of cheaters too. I wear contacts but my near vision has gotten terrible. Terri |

Thanks for letting me know Julie. OK, they seem to be working now. I guess the new tool bar is not Internet Exp friendly. Last Edited on: 10/11/09 8:03 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I love the Thumb Thing. Mine stays in my purse so it is always available. However I got mine at the local Borders store, not online. About the same price. Great stocking stuffer or secret pal gift! |

Marilyn, Please let us know which e-reader you like best. I've been eyeing them for a while. Those book bungees look interesting. I may have to order some. Terri |

Love the gadgets! I know I will need a book light when we travel to Mass. after Christmas so it's nice to see which ones you all like! |

Well, I am definitely a gadget geek, so you're not alone. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE my Kindle. I also have the Kindle reader for my iPhone so i am never without a book! I have bought - and lost - countless bookmarks. I DO however still have a boarding pass from the last airplane trip I took - 3 years ago. I have the booklight that Amazon sells with the Kindle. I used to use it sometimes at night, but since DH has moved to Maine, I don't need it. The light doesn't bother the dog. lol
Oh, and what's CMT? Last Edited on: 10/12/09 8:31 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Marilyn - I too would like to know how you compare the 2 e- readers that you have. I have been putting off getting the kindle since I have so many books to read, but I still keep ordering! I'm running out of space and I really, really need an e- reader. My only gadget that I use (infrequently ) is a book light and I have several of those. Can't remember the brand names anymore though. |

I'm not Marilyn, but I have a Kindle and I LOVE it! I had played with the Sony reader at the local B&N. It was ok. I chose the Kindle because I didn't have to sync it with my computer to get a new book and the prices of the books at Amazon were better than the Sony books. |

Great links for the gadgets....thanks. I am getting an iphone this week and have already downloaded the kindle app...I am so excited....glad to hear that it well liked!

I've had a Sony Reader for a year and a half and I love it! One great thing--I'm able to download e-books from my library and load them on my reader. Not all libraries offer e-books, but I'm lucky enough to live in an area that does (Northern California). |

I've used a "gadget" for 7 or 8 years that I can't believe I lived without before. Its called the Bookmate and you can find it in a lot of used bookstores or on this website http://www.bookmatesplus.com/ You slip the front and back covers into the bookmate, snap the transparent strap across the pages and your book stays open - hand free!

If you don't mind reading books on your PC, you can now download the Kindle for PC from Amazon. |

Mary Ann ~ I bought one of the Bookmates from PBS and I really like it! Its great, if you like to read while doing something else... ( eating, working/playing on the computer or any job, where you have a few minutes to read...and you dont want to keep "opening" up your book). I also recently purchased a bookwedge from PBS, I bought the velvet cover for it also..Its great to have in those dark spaces! |

I keep all my theater ticket stubs, train tickets, museum passes, etc. in a big basket and grab one for a bookmark. It brings back lots of memories from the past. I've also received gift bookmarks with some PBS swaps. Lovely. Looking for a good book light to use when reading in bed at night and not disturb hubby. I read mostly paperbacks and, with some, it's hard to turn pages. SG |

I've been looking for a device to use at the gym. I bought these:
http://www.ezbookclip.com/index.htm The EZbookclip people even sent a couple of freebie clips, which was nice. Tonight I will go to the gym and try them out! Last Edited on: 11/13/09 4:30 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

About the only gadet I have about once a month I will download a book to my Ipod. I have couple of reading light lights that sit in a drawer that never get used. I have a bunch of book marks you can never have to many book marks. Im really not into the sony reader or the kindle, I would rather hold the book and turn the pages. |

Susan, see my original post above for a couple of links to reading lights. Both of these work great and no problem turning pages or weighing the book down. I'll be interested to hear if anyone gets a nook reader. I think I would like to have an e-reader but am holding out because I think the prices will go down with more competition. ETA: I have a FlipKlip, Elizabeth, and it works well one you get the hang of turning the pages. Last Edited on: 11/13/09 7:17 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |
