Is anyone thinking about the books they'd like to read next year?

I would like to:

  • Get through a lot of my Jean Plaidys so I can post them!
  • Read more of my historical mysteries. I have collected several series.
  • Read more manga. I'd particularly like to get started on Hikaru No Go and Case Closed.
  • Finally finish the Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold (science-fiction/space opera) and read The Company Series (science fiction/time travel) by Kage Baker.

Of course, whether I can get through all these books in a year is another question! But I'm determined to read at least two books a week next year. I know I can do it; I just have to cut down on TV watching and Internet surfing (but I'll still check this site!)

Hmmmm.... I think my main goal will be to try to get through my series books. I just started Here Be Dragons last night, so it's a start. I always tell myself that if I need to read more series but I always end up persuading myself to read something else. So, my goal is definitely to get through all the series I have!

My first goal is to finish both of the Dorothy Dunnett series. I enjoy the books, but I put them aside for something a bit less complicated.

I also have a bookcase full of contemporary fiction that I need to read. Those keep getting pushed aside for HF and history.  I'm pulling ten of these from the shelves each week and reading the first chapter of each one. Those that seem good will go back on the shelf and those that don't grab me right away will get posted.  I have books on my shelves that I've had for years and still haven't picked them up. It's time for them to get read or get out!

I try not to set reading goals because I get too competitive with myself.  However, I would like to get through the box of books sitting on my floor.  I feel sorry for those lonely, books yearning to have their covers opened, spines bent, and pages crinkled.  :)
