I've been told that posting here in the forums helps one get requests from people manually checking out a bookshelf, and I was curious to know if any of y'all have noticed that?

That'd be a plus for me, of course, but I just like talking to people and commenting.  :)

It helps a little.  But really, we have such diverse likes and dislikes around here.

I know I check on bookshelves of folks who have talked about what books they have just finished if they have tastes like mine.  And I do watch the red sticky offers for deals.

It helps.  It especially helps if you find someone that wants more than one of the books you have because that cuts down on the price of postage per book.  Right now I'm being choosey about posting HC's and heavy paperbacks because the postage is costing me more than buying a credit.  So I'm looking for people wanting those books and others I might have but not listed.

I find it helps quite a bit if you are active in the genre threads. Those subcommunities have more targeted discussions about books of the given type and regulars tend to check out other poster's shelves.

It might help, especially if you post a fair bit and people would know you to be a trustworthy soul who's not going to send damaged books. I tend to look more at bookshelves in the genre forums if and when I do, but a great majority of my PBS dealings are strictly through FIFO whether I'm ordering or being ordered from. And that's just fine with me!

I think it helps quite a bit.  I frequently have heavily posted books requested pretty quickly by other forum regulars.  I'm sure it's because they see me here regularly and know it's not going to time out repeatedly before being accepted.  It can also help with the WL books. I get a lot of offers to post WL directly to me for the same reason: they know I will accept it right away and they won't have to wait for a bunch of time outs.

Aww, thanks Cozette!  :)  I'll get that out to you shortly!

I know that I like checking people's bookshelfs out because it shows me that they're active, and I apperciate that.

I'm willing to wait for a book.  But waiting for a book to time out?  Argh.  Hate it both with posting and with ordering.  I always think I can post a bunch and make just one trip to the PO.  And there is always one book dangling.

In the beginning I posted on this forum but didn't notice any more orders for my books.

I've since posted a few times on he Book Bazar and defitinely there was a big increase in orders.  I added about 50 new books to my shelf last week and 'advertised' this on the Book Bazar and mailed 22 books in the past week.

I imagine that the genre forums would generate more traffic than this forum.  Just because folks would know that your tastes run similiar to theirs.  And deals in the BB, as Judith mentioned.

I agree with Emily that posting in the genre forums generate more traffic.

I'm with Mary thinking that if I order from someone in the forums the book won't time out, they'll make an effort to accept my RC for plastic wrap and non-smoking without giving me a hard time about it.

And, I'm with Cozi, you got an order from me too.

I suggest you post an offer in the bazaar, that usually works.
