The other day I received a book I order from a member. It was wrapped in brown paper, with the PBS label, but secured with scotch tape with the label just taped in a few places. The book, thankfully, was fine. But I sent this message after marking the book received:

The book looks to be in good shape, but you might want to be careful about using scotch tape to close up your package -- it doesn't always hold very well. Also, please consider taping down the address label completely. It was loose when your package arrived and had it come off the book could have gone lost.

I was very pleased to see the sender write back to say :

thank you / i'll do that / xxxx (name deleted to protect privacy of this very nice member)

I just wanted to highlight that members are really nice and generally very willing to take kindly suggestions that will help all of us.

That's so great.  The first RWAP book I received (10 or 15 pages were water damaged), I was so nervous that the exchange would turn into some horrible confrontation.  Looking at the book, I could see how the damage could have been missed, and as it was a non-fiction book I wasn't planning on re-posting, I messaged the sender about the problem but didn't ask for my credit back.  The sender refunded my credit without my asking, and our messages were an orgy of politenss ("Thank you so much!"  "No, thank you, for letting me know" "But, thank you for being so nice!" etc.).

Maybe we should make this a thread for particularly nice exchanges we've had.  Reading this forum can get a little scary for the newbies! ;)

There are FAR more nice members here, I think, than not nice ones!  I had a transaction where someone sent me a book that I didn't receive.  It was marked by PBS lost in the mail.  About a week later, I received the book... "SHREDDED* and marked "Damaged by USPS".  The book was literally in pieces.  I can't believe they actually delivered it to me!  But anyway, I had to mark it received and so, lost my credit, for a book I couldn't read.  I wrote the sender of the book to let them know but I was NICE about it (after all, it wasn't THEIR fault!!) I just told them I got the book, that USPS apparantly enjoyed it for lunch!  Anyway, the person was more upset than I was and insisted on buddying me my credit back!  Even though it was USPS that damaged the book, not them.   That was a good example, but not the only one.  I have been a member for 3 months and have received 2 books as RAOK, been buddied back credits for sender damaged books, and made a lot of "pm friends" (Pen pals).

You guys are all great!

I have been a member about a month, and so far everyone has been so pleasant.  As a matter of fact,  I had asked a member if she would do a 2 books for 1 credit deal ( cuz I only had 2 credits and wanted 2 books but wanted to save 1 credit in case a wishlist book came up) and she generously sent me 5 credits.  I used 2 credits for the 2 books I wanted from her and will save the other 3 to order from her shelf.  (and as soon as my credits build up a bit, I will pay it forward to someone else who needs help)

I luv this place! ! !
