"I cannot receive books that come from a smoking home, or books that smell of smoke. Thank you so much for posting your book." eta: Short, sweet, to the point, and polite. What more can you ask for? Last Edited on: 5/24/10 7:18 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I would have to turn it down since DS smokes in the house but I wish all RCs were that polite and easy to interpret! |

I would decline it because of the second part, "or that smell like smoke." I don't smoke, so could meet that first part, but the second requirement is subjective. It might not 'smell like smoke' to me, but it could to you, as my nose isn't the greatest. But yes, it is very polite. I would decline just as politely. :) Cheryl |

I also cannot accept the smell like smoke ones. My sense of smell is not good due to allergies so I always decline those. But yes it is polite and to the point. Last Edited on: 5/25/10 12:22 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

If the person said, Your not able to notice a smoke smell for the second part, that might be less subjective. I think the majority of people that don't live in a smoking environment are more able to notice the smell of smoke. You might get a few books that smelled of smoke, but I think it would be pretty limited. If they have severe allergies to smoke, their original post might be best. A polite RC can make a difference to alot of people it seems from the forum posts. Nancy |

Agree...very polite! I mention smelling like smoke in my RC but I preface it with 'Condition for Smoking Homes'...and I've been declined only once or twice in the two years since I have it. Basically my condition only applies to smoking homes and even then I'll accept a book if it doesn't smell like smoke. Either most people don't smoke or the smokers I've gotten have good sense of smell. :) |

It is polite, but smoke smell is subjective, some can't smell anything. So you may smell smoke but the sender might not. Personall, I just risk it, I only received one book that had a smoke smell and I just put it in a closed box with baking soda for a few weeks. BTW I have asthma and it is irriatated by smoke so I understand your request, I just think it is a subjective topic. You may want to make it very short If this book is coming from a home with smokers, please decline the request. Otherwise, please do a sniff test, if you smell smoke, please do not send. or... If this has been in a smokers home, please decline the request |

id decline for the same reason stated above. |

I was just remarking on the politeness more than anything, because there seem to be so many RC's out there that are snotty and seem to rant about bad past transactions. I accepted it because my sniffer is good, and we don't smoke, though I do understand the subjectiveness of it. |

Robin, did the box with baking soda work? My parents both smoke and send me books all the time even though we have extreme allergies in my house. |

Yes, it is polite and I can smell smoky books at one sniff. I would send books as no one here smokes. |
