This is a fast paced page turner that I read into the wee hours. After the impact of the KDH virus, which led to the "reboot" of humans after death and a war between humans and reboots that was eventually won by the humans, an organization was formed to control the reboots and protect the humans. The controlling organization, HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation) now houses and trains reboots to enforce their laws. The reboots are marked with a barcode number representing how long they were dead. The higher the number, the less humanity they have remaining. Our protagonist, Wren, is feared by both humans and reboots, as she is identified as the highest number among the reboots at 178. All reboots they train are between the ages of 11 and 20. Younger than 11 are not ready and over 20 go insane, so they kill them. At the age of 17, Wren has been at HARC for 5 years and is a well trained killer, whose job is to train new reboots coming in. She has always followed orders, but when she takes on a new reboot who is not afraid of her and events occur that make her see things differently, she begins to experience more humanity than she knew she had. It is an intense and dangerous journey that ensues. I will be jumping right into the sequel.
