I've seen lots of things on here about receiving lost books a few weeks after they are declared lost. And I was just wondering if anyone has ever had a book get lost and never received it.

I requested a book for a friend's birthday. It's not until April, so I have lots of time to wait for it. But I'd hate to request a second book and then have the first one show up. Has anyone lost a book and never received it?

I've had 2 books go lost enroute to me and neither showed up. One was from last summer and it never said anything more than Electronic Info Recieved so I'm suspecting at this point it was never mailed.

The other one also happened to use DC. That showed it was delivered on Jan 8th.But it never made it my house.  So again at this point I'm assuming it was misdelivered.

On the 1st book, I waited a few wks then just bought the book myself.   For the 2nd book-I got a WL offer for it maybe a week or two later.  I accepted and just figured if the original one did turn up-that I'd mark it received adn repost one of them right away.

I have had two never show up. With the one the woman told me I could pick out some more books but the other one never responded to any emails.  Both of them were books that weren't wish-listed  so I was just able to order another one but it is just the time of waiting the extra. Hopefully you get your book in.

I've sent out 5 books that went lost and never showed up (in almost 3 years).  Think there were 2 that went lost and did eventually show up.  One was to Hawaii (so it really doesn't count), and the other was from KS to OK and it took 6 weeks.  Pat

Over my 2-1/2 years here I have had a lost book appear weeks later only once. I have also since becoming a member here, sent out over 2,000 books and of all the books that went lost, only twice have they been delivered after their "lost" date. So the vast majority of the time in my experience, once it goes lost, it stays lost.

I've never received any of the (3 or 4) books that have went lost.  Though, I don't think all of these were actually "lost", just a case of not being mailed.

One of the books I know was definitely mailed. It made it to Jersey City and then disappeared.

I've had a few books go lost that never showed up.  I've also had a few that showed up after being "lost" for a few weeks.

I just checked my transaction archive and I've had six "lost in the mail" transactions.  One of those books was never sent (a few days after the book went lost, the sender reposted it as she hadn't mailed the book the first time) and the others are still lost in the ether somewhere.

I've had 3 books lost on their way to me.  Two of them the PO lost, because there were DC scans along the way.  The sender said that she had received a bit of the original package back from the PO.   The third I don't know if it was ever mailed because there was no DC and I never heard from the sender.  I currently have a 4th book that looks as though it may go lost, too.

I've had one that never showed up & was marked lost- back in June.  Someone, somewhere has it, I guess (if it was sent??- gotta wonder sometimes...)

I wonder where all those little lost books eventually end up??.

They end up in a giant warehouse in Atlanta, GA. From there, they send them to somewhere in the midwest to auction off. There was a post about it once. I will see if I can find it.

Here is the link to the schedule of auctions here in Atanta at the Mail Recovery Center: Link

I've had 6 lost books - 1 outgoing & 5 incoming.  Of the incoming, 1 had a DC, but it was never scanned.  That's out of 340+ on each of outgoing and incoming transactions.

My most recent lost incoming book is from an account that was suspended or closed.

I've had 2 books enroute to me never show up.  Neither person used DC or communicated with me so there's no way to know if they were ever mailed.

I've never had a book I sent go lost.

In 3 years I've had 4 books go lost on their way to me and one of those I really  have my doubts that it was ever mailed.

I've mailed 2 books that were never marked received.  I also had one that finally arrived 6 months after I mailed it.

In the almost 4 years that I have been a member, I have had only 1 book that I mailed end up lost.  As for books being mailed to me I have had 11 go lost and I have never received them.  I have actually had it happen 2x with the same book.  So I guess I was never meant to read that book so I didn't try to order it again.

I've been here about 4 years, and as far as I know, I've never had a book I mailed out go lost.  I've had one book that I am certain was mailed to me go lost, and that was just this summer.  I have had books coming from AK or HI go temporarily lost, but I was expecting that.

It does occasionally happen. I've had a couple I sent go lost, even one with DC on it that was scanned at one en route point but never scanned delivered and the receiver said they never got it. There are quite a few mailed TO me that I've never received, but I suspect those were in the "never mailed" category as 90% of them were from people who are listed as no longer being members.

I have had  5 books go lost in the 2 1/2 year on this site.  The two I never received I don't think were ever mailed and the members accounts were closed shortly after.  The other 3 showed up between 2 to 4 weeks after they were marked lost.  One was coming from Hawaii and had tracking on it---it was amusing to watch as it got scanned over and over in Honolulu for about 2 weeks before finally moving on.  I have never had a book I sent go lost.

To the best of my recollection, and without checking my transaction archive, I have had one book that has never shown up, and I've mailed one book that was never received.

I have had 2 books go lost and never arrive.  One was well over a year ago and I'm sure it was mailed as the sender used PBS DC; it appears to have fallen into a black hole in Atlanta.  The second one went lost 3 weeks ago and I strongly suspect it was never actually mailed. So far, I have never had a book I mailed go lost and stay lost.

I've also had two that didn't show up. One the sender received the empty package back and PMed me, the other time, I never heard another word about the book.

I've never received any coming to me that went lost, at least 1, I think it was 2 or 3.

So, it appears the concensus would be: wait two weeks and if it doesn't show up, request it again because you'll probably never see it.
