Received a wishlisted audiobook, packaged like a library edition, although there's no indication that it is a retired library audio book. There is no ISBN to be found anywhere on the packaging or on the CD's. There is a bar code with an 8 digit number which is not an ISBN. No doubt, the sender couldn't find an ISBN either so just picked one that matched the format of this audio book. I hate that because I will NOT repost it using the same ISBN that she used. I guess I'll mark it RWAP but not ask for a credit refund, listen to the book and then donate to Goodwill. I've found in the past that going through the gyrations of posting a book that doesn't have an ISBN is hardly worth the effort because it rarely ever gets ordered, even if it is a title that members are wishing for. Any thoughts? |

You can repost it without an ISBN. You'll find the option for that on the yellow bar near the top of the Post Books page. The site will assign a short number (currently 6 digits) to it in the ISBN field. |

How many are on the WL for the ISBN that you had WL? If it is a large number, I would offer it in the Bazaar when I was done with it. If it's a very small number, I would probably just donate it as, like you, I do not find it worthwhile to mess with when there aren't many wishers. FWIW, it's possible that the person you received it from is not the one who posted it as such. S/he may have received it from his/her WL and not checked the ISBN and just reposted it from his/her bookshelf. It may have been someone earlier in the trading cycle that posted it incorrectly. Not that this really makes a difference, just that the person who sent it to you may not understand when you mark it RWAP for that reason. I do think you should mark it RWAP, just wanted to mention that possibility. |

Thanks, Tibben, for offering another explanation for how this can happen. |

I would offer the audio book in in the Bazaar. Audio books are rarely offered in the Bazaar so if its a popular book it should get snapped up. I love audio books but so far the only ones I have seen in the Bazaar are by authors/subjects that do not interest me. It is the responsibility of the poster to post correctly. Whether we post by isbn for from our shelf we have to make sure its correct. Sometimes people do like you mentioned and just pick an isbn that matches the format. They just want to post the book and don't realize this can cause problems for others. Next time you receive a book do this: Check the isbn yourself before marking received. If it's the wrong isbn then you can decide to RWAP or not. |

Good point Tibben. I don't always think to double check ISBN when I receive a book/audio. Listing on bazaar is good idea. |

Thanks for all the input. Yes, I did learn the hard way some time ago to always verify the ISBN when I receive a book. That habit of verifying is why I found that this one had no ISBN. I will try offering it in Bazaar when I'm finished with it. |

Just as follow up information: I marked it RWAP, did not ask for credit refund, and briefly stated in my explanation how a book without an ISBN should be posted. The sender replied with this message: "Sorry. I didn't look for the ISBN because the box looked like the picture shown and it was the unabridged version of the story. I will be more careful next time. Thanks for letting me know." |
