I use PBS postage. On one book in the "details" it said I had mailed the book in January of 2000, which is 8 years before I had even heard of PBS.  Of course, it still took 9+ years to be delivered. lol

Is it illegal to date postage in the future? My post office has no problem accepting with postage dated in the future (in fact they encourage that rather than have stale postage) if I'm unsure of the exact day I can mail a package. But they'll even accept postage dated the previous day, if it's put in the blue box after hours on the previous day. If it's later than that, I need to hand it to the clerk and get them to put a $0 postage label on it.

I think "illegal" is putting it rather strongly.

So, if I say that I need 5 days to mail, buy PBS printed postage which is then dated the 5th day, but find that I can mail the 1st or 2nd day and drop it in a blue box, I have done something illegal? Wow -- I just thought I was giving the requestor a nice surprise.

No need to yell Priscilla.  PBS members mail alot of packages, and many post comments if they have problems.  Although every so often a member posts that their stale postage was returned or refused, I don't actually recall a single post where a member states their post dated postage was returned.  Also, DMM does not seem to be widely understood by all postal employees...case in point, the many attempts at illegal counter inspections of Media Mail.  Anyone remember Wisconson?  Or how about Cranky Pants and Electronic DC?

ETA - the IRS would probably accept a post dated tax check...just sayin.

Take it easy, Priscilla. We appreciate tremendously when knowledgeable members share information with us so thanks for letting us know that postdated mail is against postal regulations. However, you yourself said the Post Office doesn't seem to enforce this and when rules are not enforced, it's more likely that people would just continue to do whatever is easier for them.

Here in NYC, jaywalking is illegal but we New Yorkers jaywalk to our heart's contents and most of us never get a ticket in our life.

I was not yelling.  I have problems seeing and type in large , bold letters unless I use my Android and Hubby types for me.  I think as a society we have problems with rules and laws.  (I am a born and bred NYer and know about jaywalking.)  But I come from a family of cops and Catholics, both good at making sure you do not do anything illegal.  If I offended anyone, it was not my intent.  I will stick to word games from now.
