I received the wrong book.  I marked it with PBS and sent a message to sender asking her what she wanted me to do.  Haven’t heard anything yet.  Today, I  get message from other receiver, asking me if I would send her book and she will send mine.  Do I just eat the postage on this?  Should I ask the original sender to give me a credit?  Book still shows as coming from original person, if I get it and mark it received – how will that work?

Margaret, the other member needs to compensate you for postage.  There are details on how to handle this situation in the Help Center under "I received a book I didn't request!".

Essentially the original member needs to provide each of the members who received the wrong book one credit so they can then forward their respective books to each other. Then you will mark the correct book received and the swap will be over (assuming no postability issues). It's the original member's fault, no big deal, mistakes happen. She just needs to make it right; most swappers will understand, it can happen more often than you think when you are printing, packing and sending multiple books.

Please do not mark the book received until you have the correct book.  Using the wrong book RWAP does not mark it received; it triggers a PM to be sent to the sender.   You will be able to mark the correct book received when you get it.  We can mark books received even after they are declared "lost" by going to the Transaction Archive.

A note about the Transaction Archive.  Please be very careful anytime you use it.  Double check the order and sender.  Heck, triple check.  As your credit would have been returned when the book was declared "lost", a credit is deducted here for every book you mark received.

The sender needs to buddy you a credit to pay for your postage to return the book to her or to send it to the correct requestor.

I marked it correctly when it came, and it was sent with tracking so we all know that something arrived. I read the help docs that popped up when it happened. I do get that things happen and I don't mind sending it on to the correct person. Thanks for the feedback.

This is a very common mistake. It is my theory that everyone of us does it once. And it is such a pain to fix, that we start to double check our books and labels. Our members are usually quite willing to help the sender fix this error.

Since she had tracking did she already get credit even if I haven't marked it received? I wonder if that's why she hasn't answered our PMs?

PBS will get very upset if she has not responded by the deadline. They have 5 days. After that, you should report the lack of response to PBS. PBS will start sending emails and putting members on Hold.

There are certain behaviors that PBS comes down very hard on. Not responding to problems is one of them. Rude PMs is another.

Of course, it could be they are not online. Or they are trying to reach the other member if they switched two books.

I get message from other receiver

wow, in addition to getting the wrong book, I'd also be upset the sender was giving out my information to others.

"wow, in addition to getting the wrong book, I'd also be upset the sender was giving out my information to others."

The other persons info was on the PBS receipt that was with the book that came to me, I assume that is how she found my contact info.  It all worked out.
