Hi!  A sender sent me the wrong book.  When I received the book, I marked "RWAP" and checked "received wrong title" or something to that effect. This action automatically sent the sender a note that I had received the wrong book.

The sender sent me an apology and said that the actual book is in storage and so she cannot send it to me.  She is asking that I mark the book as 'received' so that it will come off her "wall" (her words).  If I mark the book as received, I lose my place in line.  I reviewed PBS's guidelines and I think I've done the right thing, but sender continues to send me notes.

She found something that said she could "cancel" the transaction after marking her book as mailed; but I've already marked it as RWAP so I'm not sure she would be able to do that.

Is there something else I should have done?  What do I do now?

Yes, you are correct. Do not mark the book as received. When PBS marks it lost in the mail, then you will go back to your place in the Wish List line, if it was a WL book, and you will automatically get your credit back at that time as well.

There is also the option is that the sender contacts PBS and asks them to cancel the whole transaction early, so that all of this happens earlier than it otherwise would. But they do that from the transaction as it is now. And the sender has to contact them to request it.

So, under no circumstances should you mark the book properly received.

I find it very weird that she apparently sent you a wrong book in the first place instead of just canceling the transaction before she mailed anything at all.

Sounds to me like she already knew the book you requested was in storage and she couldn't access it. So she just sent you another one, hoping you would accept it in the other's place and mark it received without calling her on it.

Just sayin'

Huhm... yeah... could be (now that I think about it).  I wonder what the 'scam' would be, though.  What's in it for her?

In any case, since I have not received the book that I requested (and will not since it is in storage), then I will not be marking it as received.

However, since I marked it as RWAP, then wouldn't it be showing on her end as a "completed" transaction?

Not with the option you selected. RWAP - wrong book, wrong title just informs the sender and they system what happened, but leaves the transaction out there active in case you do receive the correct book in order for it to completed correctly. It will show completed on both your ends when (a) you get the right book and mark it received (b) it goes lost in the system (c) the sender contacts PBS and tells them they have no intention of sending the correct book and asks PBS to cancel the transaction.
