I would find myself thinking about the characters in this book during the day when I wasn't reading it. I would ponder things that happened in Augusta's life & her responses to them. At first, I didn't much like her. By the end of the book I truly admired her. A very moving book covering one day in the life of Augusta, while she waits to hear the outcome of her son-in-law's serious brain surgery and sits with a friend & her husband. During the course of the day, we get insight into who Augusta is by the vignettes of memory she gives us of her life. I am glad I read it! It gave me some real food for thought. The "recipe for bees" from the title is the most thought-provoking of all. Can something sweet come from something dead?

This book really evoked some childhood memories. Also it was a wonderful example of holding on to love and learning to forgive but also be forgiven.

Fabulous book! I was immersed in the setting and the time. The rural images came alive, as did the characters. This is one of my all-time favorite books.

I originally started to read this book thinking it was the book everyone was raving about (The Secret Life of Bees). I have since read both and like this one MUCH better.
