Giving birth in the back of a wagon five months after the death of her husband was not what Abigail Fairchild had planned. But her son is worth it and, determined to secure his inheritance, Abigail begins to learn how to manage her husband's ranch.

Ranch foreman Boyd Harris lost his reputation after being falsely accused of a crime, and will work hard for the woman who hires him without question. He doesn't count on having to teach her ranching from the ground up, or on falling in love with her.

A long trail ride forces the two to face their feelings and also sets Abigail up to lose her ranch, as rumors spread back home. The only thing that might save her son's inheritance is forsaking her love for Boyd and marrying a neighboring rancher.
