Not knowing what you enjoy or have recently read, I've enjoyed these and the series aren't done yet.  There is also the Bellisaurius series.  These are more serious.  You can always check out the Vorkosigan series if you want good suspense with lots of humor.

David Weber's  Honor Harrington series  and Ian Douglas, both have great futuristic  war series. Andre Norton and Modessitt are both very good and have several series.

Elizabeth Moon has the Serranno Legacy series that moves through seevral books and the Vatta series.  Both are futuristic dynasty based series where the wrongfully accused fight back to stop interstellar civil war.

Anne MacCaffrey has two series I would recommend.  One is the Freedom series that starts with Freedom's landing.  The other is the Sassinak series that starts with the Death of Sleep I think.  It is about the affect of relativity on family relationships and also includes several battles in avoiding a civil war.

S.M.Stirlings the General series is also a good post-appocalyptic series.

I will go through my keepers and see if I have any other suggestions. I also support the two authors from Joann   They both have very good series.
