A friend of mine is doing a 'giving tree' present, and the kid is asking for comic books for Christmas. The letter doesn't say anything about what kind - humor, superhero...just that it will 'help him read.'

My friend is looking for appropriate YA graphic novels.

What do you suggest?

Laika by Nick Abadzis (about the Space Race & the Soviet Space program)

Maus by Art Spiegelman (Holocaust but YA appropriate)

There are also a lot of graphic novel versions of regular novels, so there's Shakespeare, Dracula, Sleepy Hollow, Uglies series, Wheel of Time series, etc

Do you know if its a boy or girl, and what the age range may be?  It will change the books I suggest, that's why I ask.  :)
