I did this for a week, and was I surprised! A coffee here, a juice there, a lunch out, and then, my trip to Walgreens.... it all adds up. What surprised me the most was the fact that I bought snacks from the corner store, then realizing that I had the same products at home! I could have put my home snacks in baggies and carried it all to work.

My husband and I did this for a couple of weeks in order to get a weekly budget going.  It is amazing how much $$ you blow on silly things!  Now we get out a set amount of cash weekly and try to only use the cash, has helped us tremendously!

Hubby and I are doing this in March.  It also deters us from spending on silly things because we don't want to write it down!

It's a simple but good idea, similar to keeping a food diary when trying to lose weight.  I think I'll start one tomorrow and discover where the money actually goes.

I've been doing this for a couple years. I have a spreadsheet--columns for the budget categories, rows for the days of the month. I'm with Kristen--sometimes I don't buy things because I don't want to have to write them down!
