I have an order that is going to time out tonight.  A member ordered a book from me that is a textbook (I posted a question about this yesterday, I think) and I PM'd her to let her know the book has 4 underlined words.  No response yet, so my question is, should I let the order time out or should I hit the cancel button?  I mean, does one look better or worse on my account?

Boo to red "X"'s!!!

:)

If it's about to time out and you haven't heard back after the PM, I'd cancel.

It's hard to say.  Did you say in your Email that you needed to hear from them by a certain day or you would mail it anyway?   I personally would probably cancel so I wouldn't be out the postage if they complained. Although text books are allowed some writing and highlighting. That's a tough one to call.  Did you accept the request and now it's about to time out because you haven't marked it mailed?  Or is it a request that's about to time out?

I don't think it should make a difference on your account. Since textbooks require PM agreement on underlining and this person has not responded, if there is ever a complaint, the system will have record that they did not complete their end of the requirement.

As I understand it, it takes habitual cancellations for the infamous "red X" to cause a problem with your account. Cancel it if you feel you need to.

Unfortunately, if you don't hear back from her, either way you are going to lose your place in the FIFO line because the book will be removed from your shelf.  If you are waiting to accept the order, I would go ahead and accept the order and choose the last mailing day - that gives you 5 more days to get a response back.  You can always cancel later as long as you don't mark the book mailed - and then you can put in the little box that you had to cancel because the other member didn't respond to your PM.

I just had this happen to me - I sent a second PM politely asking her to respond as to whether she wanted my textbook which had highlighting in it.  I got a quick response, stating that she hadn't noticed my first PM.  So, I'd PM her again if I were you.  Then, I'd do exactly what Lindsey suggested (if you don't hear from her after the second PM goes out), but prior to the end of the 5 day period, contact R&R and ask for intervention.  They will likely be able to fix the situation so that you don't lose your place in the FIFO line.
