This really is beginning to bug me big time. I can't quite fathom what the Kindle Kops think they will accomplish with these tactics, and is so unfair to an author who has no control over it all. The latest one really sets me off. Author gets her first publishing contract, gets her book published and then this crap. http://www.amazon.com/review/R2XI5PUJJRQFT5/ref=cm_cd_notf_message?ie=UTF8&cdForum=Fx17TN39VFN7V99&cdPage=1&cdThread=TxH1AP5S27HHRG#Mx1A2WLYWMN9UA3

Perhaps I'm dense, but I'm not following the logic.

Wow, that's just crap that people do that. Isn't there a way to flag reviews/feedback like that and have it reviewed and removed if inappropriate? If not, there really should be.

eta: Ok, I see the "Report as abuse" link now. I'm glad to see there's an option for that.

I don't know just what the Kindle Kops are capable of but all I can say is that I am so glad that they have these discussion forums so that consumers can actually see where some of this "crap" is coming from! You know, I read a lot of these discussion threads and there is always at least ONE person with an unreasonable gripe. I am SOOOO glad that I don't have to deal with any type of customer relations because there are people out there who would whine if they were hanged with a new rope, as my DH says!

Kindle/e-book prices are all over the place, if people just open their eyes. Everybody has the choice to pay or not to pay them. Why they can't get that through their thick heads is beyond me. I believe, Cathy, that Ms Richards is totally wrong in giving her review based on the price of the book! IMO this is someone who should keep her opinions where they belong - with the publishers. If she gets no response from the pubs, then don't buy ANY of their books. Don't pick on  one hopeful author! In these discussion forums, at least, you get more than just the one opinion.

Jeanne, it is just beyond me what they think they can accomplish with these tactics. Do they think the publishers give a rat's behind? As long as the book sells, who gives a damn about the rating (outside of the author of course). These reviews do as much good as those mis-guided idjuts who give a one star and complain about the used book seller's service/packaging/book condition. Do they really think mere mortal authors have any pull with the big publishing house?

Kelly, I'm not sure about Ammy's guidelines. I complained once about a similar review (one star over kindle pricing) and Amazon customer service bascially told me to pound sand.

Cathy - I saw one person give a review of one star to a book because they had ordered a USED book and it smelled musty! It never ceases to amaze me that these people can even READ - they are so stupid!!!!

Jeanne, I've seen those. The book was damaged/never shipped whatever. There is a place on your account to rate a seller. Is it that difficult?

Ridiculous.  It appears no matter what anyone says to this lady she feels perfectly justified in crapping on the author.  She got another no vote from me on review helpfulness.

A no vote from me, too.

And I got a HUGE kick out of her reply to you, Misfit.  This idiot is ignorant enough to not know that a widget is merely a generic placeholder for a generic manufactured item.  And she claimed to have "found" the "example" you cited in seconds.  LOL

I've been following the comments by email and glad someone else jumped in. Her latest bit is that she's "boycotting". Ummm, I thought boycotting would be not to buy the kindle book, not to damage the author with one star reviews.

I've seen these threads before and the people like this lady who are convinced they are in the right are impossible to reason with. Last I looked at the Follett book he got hit pretty hard by the Kindle Kops. I don't think they realize very very few authors have any real sway at all with the publisher. Besides the fact that some people really don't read the Amazon reviews. They see bunches of fives and/or bunches of ones and just make a choice based on that. Dumb, I know but there are still some out there.

I stuck my two cents worth into that discussion, Cathy, for all the good it will do. She has an agenda of some sort and I don't believe it's what she's trying to palm off onto us. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this was her big chance to stick the knife in and give it a bit of a twist to this author. Something smells real fishy to me in this mess!!!

Jeanne, I saw that and well said. You have to wonder why this group is so determined about this. I understand protesting, I understand boycotting but writing a one star review is just not going to get them anywhere. Were there ever any price guarantees with the sale of an ereader?
