Peter Proud is young, healthy, attractive, and affluent. He leads a perfectly normal life, except for one thing--his dreams. In them he is not himself, but another man entirely--a man whose voice, he discovers, is not his own. The most vivid and terrifying of these dreams always climaxes with his murder at the hands of a beautiful woman named Marcia. Proud comes to feel that these are not ordinary dreams but manifestations of another life: one recent enough to be traced--if he can find some clue to his past identity.
In his dreams Proud sees a New England town--his only guidepost to his former life. His attempts to uncover further evidence through a clairvoyant and a hynotist are unavailing. One night Proud sees the town flash across the television and starts a compulsive search for his previous incarnation. He is ultimately led to the town, the house, the identity of his former self--and Marcia. Irresistibly and inevitably, Proud is drawn into relationships with the people he knew during his other life--until incidents of his two lives merge inextricably into an unearthly circle of mystery and terror.

This is a good story but a little preachy.

Excellent and riveting story of a man's search for the truth. Reincarnation believers will love this and others will be intrigued and spellbound as the story unfolds.
