While the nation totters on the brink of war, a young northerner named Thad Novak makes his way to the Winslow plantation and is taken on as a hired hand. Unknown to the Winslows, Novak is actual of Winslow blood and has come seeking a place of refuge. He finds that and much more -- beginning to fall in love with Patience Winslow, the youngest daughter.
