I just received an ARC for a book I ordered (advanced readers copy).  They aren't allowed so I've requested my credit back.  I feel guilty about it! Remind me that this is perfectly ok to do!!!

Completely ok to do.  Also ok to give an unresolved mark if the sender fails to do so.  The more marks, the faster we can get rid of people that pick and choose what rules to follow.

Not just OK but I think it is a GOOD thing to do. We need to hold one another accountable for the good of the community! Thank you!

I know how you feel.... I feel guilty unless it's a dog-shredded book that looks like somebody dropped it in a toilet, but requesting your credit back really does encourage people to only post truly postable books, so don't feel guilty!

I agree with the above - mark unresolved if it's not and ask for credit back if the book isn't postable.  My rule of thumb is - I mark it RWAP if I can't repost the book.  Usually I'll ask for my credit back.  Occasionally I won't.  However, I feel that the rules need to be followed and if we don't do our part - mark RWAP and ask for credits back - then those who don't follow the rules just ruin it for everyone.  Pat

Absolutely ask for your credit back!  And don't return the book to them unless they give you an extra credit for the postage or the postage $$.

If the other member refuses to give it, remember you can always post your ARC in the Book Bazaar and ask for a credit for it to recoup that credit you've lost.

No guilt necessary.  Remember the posting member had to click through the box that says "I promise to follow the Golden Book Rule: My books have front and back covers, all pages, no liquid damage, no writing or highlighting, are not Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs), and my books are in generally good condition."

You should feel guilty if you don't RWAP unpostable books!

was she new? maybe she just didn't understand what an ARC was, and you educated her? maybe she didn't read the rules carefully before clicking on the golden rule button? good job for helping her become a better member.

I've only asked for my credit back twice here,  after hundreds of swaps..

BOTH times, the senders went ballistic.  I received an emotional tirade that went on for paragraphs from one of them  LOL

Conversely, I received an OFFER for refund wihtout even asking from another swapper today when I let them know about something

LOL   You just never know, but glad you got a good one, a gracious accountable swapper,  who sounds like just the kind of member we want here!

I've only had two RWAPs I had to ask for my credit back.  Both refunded the credit, but were really, really snotty and resentful about it.  Oh well, you move on.  I've had three other RWAPs from books damaged by USPS, and one lady returned my credit without me even asking for her to do so.
