I just need clarification on this - bear with me.

When I receive a book and go to mark it received, I have the option of removing it from my bookshelf hold (yes/no drop down).

I assume that this is a result of having it marked as an automatic yes on my wishlist?  Is that true?

If I don't remove the hold, will I receive another copy when it comes up?

I hope I am making sense.  I guess I am wondering why the default wouldn't be yes, remove it.

What happens is when you mark the book recieved it puts it on your bookshelf automatically to save you the trouble of posting the book after you've read it if you want to swap it again.  The hold is so someone doesn't request it before you finish reading it.  It won't request another book for you.

I delete it. It bothers me. I think it makes my shelf look messy. I also feel all obligated to relist it and sometimes I give books to my friends.

I wondered about that same thing, Jeri. I wonder if folks ever look at that?

I just looked at a book I got in the mail today and the footprints are there.  I also delete them from my shelf to add when I'm done.  Sometimes I pass books onto family and friends first, and then there are those I request planning to keep.

If you post the book from your TBR list, you keep the footprint thingy even if you didn't have the book on hold on your bookshelf.  That's what I do since I also think it looks messy having unposted books holding on my shelf.

Maybe those of you who are complaining about messy bookshelves already know this, but in case you don't or have forgotten about it, you can use the drop down menu next to "View" at the top of the page to have only your books that are actually posted show up on the screen.  Not messy that way.  The only problem I've found is that if you want a printed list, you can't get just the posted books even if you have it set to "posted books" only.  I reported the problem but so far it hasn't been corrected.  Of course, I'm not really sure what the purpose of having both the "hold" feature and the TBR list is.  Back in February, the "hold" feature as part of the bookshelf replaced the separate "books to repost" list; I preferred that separate list to the new combined list, but, oh well.
