Here is the email I get when I request a book:

This is just a friendly email to confirm that your request for the book [blah blah] has been accepted into our system at PaperBackSwap. In the next couple of days you should receive an email stating that the book is on its way!

First, I assume that this actually means "has been accepted by the book's owner."  "Accepted into our system" sounds more like a simple acknowledgement that your request was received.

Second, I've never gotten an "email stating that the book is on its way."

Am I misunderstanding?

I think what the e-mail is trying to say is that when you clicked to order the book PBS acknowledged that you want that book from that owner. They are just letting you know that the system got your request and that the owner should be contacting you shortly!!...

(I think, someone else can correct me if i'm wrong)

EDITED: The owner of the book doesn't contact you, I guess I should say that the owner will accept your request, you then get an e-mail stated that the owner of the book that you want has accepted your request and will mail the book to you.... Sorry if I am confusing you. :)

What happens is, you request a book and then that email is automatically sent to you acknowledging your request.  The request is sent to the person who posted the book and they then have to manually agree to send it.  Unfortunately, not everyone lives up to their end of the bargain when they post a book (for various reasons), so they may actually never agree to send it.  So, that inital email is not saying that your book will be sent or even that the sender has agreed to send it!  It is just acknowledging that the system knows you want the book and is trying to get it for you.

Check your email communication preferences - you may find the reason why you are not getting "the book is on it's way" emails.

Hope that helps.

If I understood the original post right, you said you don't receive an email saying the book has been sent.  You might check your profile to see what your email settings are because you can choose to  not get some of them.  I always get an email saying that the book has been marked mailed by the book owner.

First - "accepted into our system" means EXACTLY that.  The person who has the book has been notified, but they have not yet agreed to send it, or agreed to your conditions if you have any.  It is in fact, simply an acknowledgment that your request was received by PBS.  You can turn these emails off if you prefer.

Second - there are a bunch of standard PBS-generated emails you can get.  If you go into "My Account-Settings" and then click on "Email settings" you will see them.  They are:

- book request accepted in the system (what Al asked about)

- New personal message

- Tell a Friend Thank You (this is if you referred someone and got a referral credit)

- Watched Topics (this is for the forum, you can watch a topic of interest)

- Book Received that you sent (self-explanatory, I think!)

- Feedback Accepted

- Wish List - other versions

Above are categories you can turn on or off.

There are other emails too - including BOOK MAILED and BOOK REQUESTED and CANNOT MAIL and MARK MAILED ....these, I believe, cannot be turned off.

OK, glad I asked, I understand now.

There's no email that gets sent when the user accepts the request or prints the label, but I can check that on the PBS site.

I see that I have received "Book has been sent" emails, but didn't realize it.

Thanks.
