Why is it that whenever I request a book and the member doesn't respond or accept, after the five days they have to accept the request date resets and tell me that I just requested the book even though it may have been over two weeks prior? I always feel guilty when I cancel the order because I'm fairly certain the person either hasn't/isn't going to notice and perhaps I should just pick another book...

Chris, If the first person doesn't respond, your request automatically rolls to the next person in line who has the book. They in turn have 5 days to respond to your request. Hang in there, when the request times out, PBS can make a note of it. It will help weed out those who aren't following the rules. Sorry that you're having these problems.

Yes, don't cancel the order and re-order it. If you do that, the request just goes right back to the person you'd tried to order from before and now they have a new order with five more days in which to respond (or not!)...the best way is to let the order time out and go to the next person in line. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for that one, but sometimes--especially if you're requesting a book that has a ton of copies available, you may hit upon a string of PBS people who have wandered away because no one wanted their books when they first joined. By the time their books get to the beginning of the request line, they've lost interest and wandered away. Letting the request time out removes that book from the person's shelf and if they don't respond to a couple of requests, their shelf gets moved to vacation hold so their books aren't available in the system anymore until they come and reactivate it. So your patience does other PBS members a favor! Cheryl |

Oh ok, thank you. The one I cancelled the order on I didn't re-request for fear that it would just sit. I will let my other order wait patiently. Thanks! |
